A graduate from the world renowned Glasgow School of Art, Ruth Leslie is one of the UK's most promising young jewellery designers.
I always knew I was going to have a creative career and for years, I had been incredibly inspired by my auntie’s quirky contemporary jewellery collection, so it kind of fell into place. I also remember thinking there was something magical about metalwork, and I love the fact it’s such a skilled yet traditional ability to have.
For the Nu Blvck collection, as a woman with a love of ‘things’ and a habit of overspending on trends, I wanted each design to become a timeless yet unique piece that the owner will love and wear for a long time. I started the process with looking at traditional jewellery styles, for example, hoop earrings and in turn, developed this to create elongated oval hoops that are moveable and tactile. Each piece aims to reflect my own work and style, again playing with the wire element to create simple, sculptural forms that are bold but still classic and easily wearable.
